Beavers are rapidly succeeding and dispersing in California Watersheds. My thesis work explores where in Central California they will do well, whether humans reintroduce them, or they find their own way into new habitats. I am building a simple habitat suitability model to create the opportunity for land managers and owners to determine whether their land is a good candidate for beaver reintroduction or dispersal.
My objective is to make a simple beaver habitat suitability model that arrives at similar outputs as the industry standard, the Beaver Restoration Assessment Tool. My model uses the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Permit process as a starting point for creating suitability criteria for my model.
